Backlit granite floor

Soho-floor

Brazilian granite provides the answer. We were tasked with finding a solution to the design brief for a backlit stone floor for a private clients central London apartment. Sheerstone uses a thin veneer of natural stone laminated to glass but in a private home the risk of having stone as the upper surface posed a slip risk and the idea of having natural onyx as the upper surface posed maintenance issues such as cleaning, maintenance and scratching to foot traffic.

Often the suggestion of granite conjurs images of black work tops and/or boring designs. However granite has a pretty face too and especially when the granites are hand-picked and are as beautiful as any marble or onyx.

Offering the hard wearing surface, durability and zero maintenanace ‘Purle Dunas’ from Brazil was chosen as the upper surface laminated to toughened glass panels, which were in turn bonded on-site to structural glass which spanned from wall to wall all backlit with LED’s offering a beautiful example of what can be achieved with a little imagination and a lot of product know how.
